Optimization, automation and advanced analytics—these three areas are central to virtually every discussion about modern industry, or Industry 4.0. The digital transformation within this sector is unfolding before our eyes, and it is imperative not to remain indifferent to it. The Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two concepts that are essential to grasp. Change impacts every organization, from large enterprises to small businesses, and it is absolutely crucial to be prepared for it.
It is vital to recognize that today’s industry relies not only on advanced machinery but also, and perhaps even more so, on the software that underpins production.
IT systems augmented by artificial intelligence are poised to play a pivotal role in the competitive race among enterprises. Industry 4.0 introduced modern technologies into the world of manufacturing, while the concept of Industry 5.0 emphasizes on the crucial role of human involvement in production processes. Let’s not forget that humans are an indispensable part of every revolution.
It is also worthy to note at least four impacts that the implementation of information systems brings to the industrial sector:
IT solutions are utilized to optimize manufacturing processes, identify potential issues and prevent breakdowns. Thanks to the capability for rapid and precise data analysis, IT systems can predict, for instance, which machines are faulty and indicate when they require maintenance, thereby, helping to avoid prolonged production downtime.
Dedicated software for the industry, based for instance on artificial intelligence, can automate many tasks, leading to increased efficiency and reduced production costs. Processes that previously required human intervention can now be performed by intelligent systems.
The industry generates vast amounts of data, which often remain underutilized primarily due to ineffective analysis.
Nevertheless, this data can be pivotal for success and can be leveraged, for instance, to enhance understanding of manufacturing processes, market trends and customer preferences. Software developed using artificial intelligence can process data, extract relevant information and provide valuable insights for making business decisions.
The industry must continually evolve in order to maintain market competitiveness. Overlooking the opportunities brought by modern technologies can result in a diminished competitive standing. Industrial sector leaders are implementing advanced software and strategically utilizing artificial intelligence advancements to deliver the best solutions to their customers.
In recent years, we have seen substantial growth in the industrial sector, with a soaring emphasis on creating dedicated software for clients in this field. Here are a few selected IT solutions for the industry.
Our client, Bibus Menos, which specializes in 3D printing solutions for industrial applications, including the railway sector, was in search of a software developer to manage the operation of their printers. The Solwit team developed and implemented a fully functional web-based software for preparing and parameterizing tasks sent to 3D printers, as well as managing these printers on a local network. Importantly, the application is fully compatible with the printers’ built-in software.
The web application, along with a database, was installed on the client’s server. The database features the ability to store a history of jobs and a log of errors sent by the machines on the network. All tasks sent to the machine along with the 3D files can be saved in a designated folder on the server in the form of compressed archives, along with information files detailing the set of parameters used for each job.
For Elproma Elektronika Sp. z o.o., we developed and tested a system comprising both a web and mobile application that enables nationwide monitoring of time synchronization across thousands of NTP (Network Time Protocol) servers. Elproma Elektronika Sp. z o.o. offers cutting-edge technologies in areas such as telemetry, time synchronization, wireless technology, and the Internet of Things.
Solwit’s role was to deliver software that integrates with the hardware and software provided by Elproma Elektronika Sp. z o.o. essential for the synchronization and distribution of official time signals across Poland, and signals for the Polish implementation of the international coordinated universal time, UTC (PL).
We completed such a project for a market leader in electronic security. We collaborated with the client on their new product and were responsible for delivering the software. The project’s goal was to create a hybrid mobile application (iOS and Android) that allows users to easily and intuitively interact with the client’s new line of devices. The application was designed to be integrated with other products, as well as Google, Apple, and Amazon assistants, and it was to be usable without an internet connection. The development was preceded by an extensive business analysis, during which several interesting enhancements were proposed and ultimately included in the project scope. The Solwit team was responsible for the entire software development process, working closely with the client’s team, which continuously worked on the hardware component.
Our client required warehouse management software that would facilitate efficient management of the flow of medical supply shipments from an internal warehouse to hospital units. After a thorough analysis of needs, we developed the e-Courier software in both mobile and web application forms. The courier application provides real-time access to shipment status information. Participants in the process are informed about the shipment’s dispatch from the warehouse, estimated delivery time, delayed shipments, successfully delivered items, checked, returned, etc. The use of barcode scanning minimizes the possibility of human errors. Each shipment’s code is scanned at the stage of issue and transferred to transportation, which is automatically visible in the application. Shipment tracking helps to flawlessly identify the moment and place of any potential loss, and the receipt is confirmed using a personal identifier (LDAP). This ensures there is no doubt about who was involved in the delivery process, when and where, as well as whether they have the appropriate authorization to receive the shipment.
