Express functional testing of a mobile app for heating installation architects

What did the client need?

The client required quick and effective testing of a mobile app. The development stage had already been finished. Conducting functional tests was necessary.

The application was intended to facilitate the designing of insulation setups for district heating substations – the required modules were chosen from the app’s inventory and the final specification was automatically forwarded to the proper company divisions, including the production.

The application would also provide the option to create a site map, including heating installations, and annotate it with additional information regarding the project.

What we offered

A two-person team of testers from Solwit was established within a day from signing the contract, conducted a range of functional tests, and developed a testing specification with a test plan solidifying the process. The entire assignment took only 8 weeks and was conducted in accordance with ISTQB guidelines.

The Solwit experts worked directly with the client’s programmers who developed the mobile app. They assumed the role of the user and to test the application effectively learned the basics of the trade, such as how installation schematics are created and what sort of documentation is used.

The scope of work:

  1. Test plan – the document describing the approach and the procedures to be used in the testing process. It also defines the QA metrics for the application to allow verification of its readiness.
  2. Test cases following the rules laid out by the test plan.
  3. The choice and configuration of test management tools.
  4. Verification of test cases in testing cycles and constant reporting of any errors to the client’s team.

What we achieved

Delivering the product on time while ensuring the highest quality of the native mobile application, as expected by the end client.

In eight weeks Solwit’s testers managed to conduct detailed functional tests of the application, following the ISTQB standards. They worked flexibly, adjusting their work hours to the client’s programmer team’s availability.

The client received full test documentation and a defect list recording all errors that had been reported to the programmers during tests.

Within 150 hours of testing, the application went through 15 iterations. As a result, the client received a fully tested, high-quality, native mobile application.
