In some respect the service of software testing is no different from any other custom service: the clients’ interests and concerns relate to the same aspects of cooperation and delivery. Regardless of the scope and type of tests, or the nature of the solution being tested, customers ask similar questions, and we do our best to answer comprehensively.

Below you will find the 10 questions we hear most often, relating to the tests on one system, based on one platform (e.g. a booking system for a conference organizer or software for a local clinic).

We are an ISTQB Platinum Partner. Every day, we conduct thousands of automated tests. Check out our offer!

1. How much does it cost?

Unfortunately, the most honest answer here is the iconic “it depends”. The price of the tests consists of many elements, such as:

  • The purpose of testing – the selection of the type and scope of tests depends on it, and thus – the number and type of resources that should be involved in the execution of the order.
  • Technologies of the tested software – if the program was built with the use of unique technologies, it may turn out that in order to conduct effective tests, it will be necessary to involve specific competences
  • Time available for testing – you know, the faster, the more difficult, and the more difficult – the more expensive.
  • The expected results of the tests – sometimes the client only expects from us a list of bugs, sometimes detailed documentation, and sometimes even the support in obtaining certification, eg security.

In general, we will not be able to quote a price without first knowing the product to be tested and talking about the purpose of the testing.

2. How long do the tests take?

Assuming that we are testing one medium complex platform, the average recommended duration of the tests is a maximum of 10 working days (not including the time for bug fixing).

3. How soon can you start testing?

Assuming that we are testing one medium complex platform, the average recommended duration of the tests is a maximum of 10 working days (not including the time for bug fixing).

4. What formalities do we need to complete in order for you to take action?

What we need is a framework agreement and a confidentiality document (NDA) signed. In order to start working, a signed purchase order from the client is required.

5. How do you report the bugs?

In a way that best suits you. Most often it is done in the form of a daily report sent by e-mail or using JIRA.

6. Does the valuation include retests after provided error corrections?

Usually, the price includes up to 30 retests (one per each test case).

7. What will I get after the performed tests?

At the end of the order, we will provide you with a report that includes, as a minimum:

  • information on the number of tests performed on individual software versions,
  • data on the configuration in which the tests were performed,
  • test results,
  • list of bugs,
  • any additional information.

Sometimes our clients need thorough test documentation in order to obtain software certification. We also prepare such documentation according to the required methodology, based on an additional contract.

8. What is the organization of the testing team that will work on my project?

Each testing team consists of at least one person with senior experience. People with less than two years of professional experience always work under the supervision of senior colleagues and leaders. The overall supervision over the project is also performed by the test area director, who has extensive experience in testing and substantively supports the teams he manages.

9. What will the communication between us look like?

We work in accordance with the Agile manifesto, which is why we treat communication with the client as one of the basic elements of effective service delivery. At the beginning of cooperation, we agree on a communication plan that on one hand ensures the client with a comfort upon monitoring the project that is run outside his company, and on the other – provides our testing team with information necessary for the excellent service delivery.

We offer various types of communication channels: e-mail, reports in tools such as JIRA, videoconferences, etc. During the pandemic, we’d rather avoid business trips and visits to the company’s offices, but if there is a need for a direct meeting, we just participate.

10. How is the ISTQB certification of Solwit engineers beneficial to the clients?

ISTQB® (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) is an organization whose mission and goal is to constantly develop the profession of tester and to set the standards and solutions in the field of software testing.

The certification obtained by Solwit and the ISTQB partnership title ensures the clients, that we apply international standards in the process of testing their products, which in practice means that:

  • the test process is ordered and structured according to the best proven methodology
  • the customer has an insight into the test process and can assess the quality of the tested project at any time
  • the terminology related to testing is orderly, and thus assures the basis for better communication and better understanding within the software development team
  • the efficiency of new software development is significantly increased – the testers provide real support for further project development.
